About International House Cape Town

International House Cape Town (IH Cape Town) is part of the International House World Organisation, a group of more than 150 language schools in over 50 countries world-wide, teaching English and Modern languages. IH Cape Town is perfectly located in the heart of Sea Point, offering students the unique opportunity to explore the amazing tourist attractions, socialise with fellow students and experience the local culture. The school is in close proximity to many shops, restaurants, supermarket, bars and everything else one could need and want on a daily basis .The famous Sea Point promenade which runs all the way to Mouille Point, close to the Waterfront, is only a minute’s walk away.  All of Cape Town’s great attractions e.g. the Waterfront, the City Centre, Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Bo Kaap and Camps Bay, just to name a few, are only a short bus ride away.

The atmosphere in school is very relaxed, social and friendly, the students like to participate in the various social activities the school organises every week and go on outings with their whole class.

All the teachers are CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) qualified, which is a University of Cambridge certified course, and have many years of teaching experience all around the world. IH Cape Town also runs the CELTA course for people who want to become English teachers. Other than the General Standard and Intensive English courses, students can do Business English, English for specific purposes such as Aviation and Oil and Gas focused English, TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge as well as private lessons. IH Cape Town is the only school which offers a university pathway programme in cooperation with Kaplan to prepare students for an undergraduate degree at universities in the UK and Australia which guarantees entry.

Facilities

IH Cape Town consists of 2 school buildings which are next to each other and have 24 class rooms, computer rooms, 2 lounges, 2 kitchens and free Wi-Fi, tea, coffee and water. The highlight of the school is our spacious rooftop terrace where you have amazing sea views and where we have our monthly student party which everyone always enjoys. We do have a library where students can rent or buy books and at receptions trips and tours in Cape Town and South Africa can be booked.

LEISURE

Cape Town is a wonderful place which has so much to offer. The school is located right in front of the sea and behind us are the mountains. The city has something to offer for everyone.

The school organises social activities every week and many different trips and tours can be booked at reception. That can include hiking up Table Mountain, visiting Robben Island, tasting the great South African wines in the winelands of Constantia, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and skydiving out of a plane. The school also helps organise weekend safari trips, taking students for dinner and out to party, just to mention a few.
Visa Information
Generally people from most countries do not require a visa, they can come on a regular tourist/ visitors visa which they get upon arrival at the airport. This visa allows them to stay in South Africa for 90 days. Once they are here they can apply for an extension of another 90 days.
Students who definitely want to stay longer than 6 months can obtain a student visa.

It is always best to check before what the visa requirements for each country are.

How to get there

Cape Town is a very popular destination which means many airlines fly to Cape Town, either directly or via one of the big hobs like Istanbul, Dubai or Johannesburg.

Cape Town International Airport is only about 25 min drive from the school's location. If a student has booked accommodation through the school, they have the arrival airport pick up included.

Our accommodation that we offer are all well situated, some are in Sea Point close to school and the seaside and in walking distance. Others benefit from being in town close to all cultural and historical sites as well as many restaurants and bars. There is a direct bus line which takes about 15-20 minutes.
