Cannes is well known around the world for being a glamorous and luxurious seaside town, most famous for the Cannes Film Festival. This is a beautiful town that is popular with tourists as well as with language travel students because there is plenty to see and do here when not studying hard at your foreign language school!
Where is Cannes?
Cannes is on the French Riviera, known in France as the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur. It’s on the southern coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea so has great weather. Compared to nearby Nice, Cannes has quite a small population at around 70,000 people though of course when you add in the tourists and the language travel students this number quickly goes up!

Although a relatively small town Cannes has many attractions. The Mediterranean location means that the beaches are always popular, especially off La Croisette, the popular waterfront avenue. When not studying at a foreign language school, language travel students enjoy spending time on the beach!
To see more of Cannes though, visit the old town, La Suquet which has nice views and includes a fortified tower, chapel and museum. Cannes has several other museums too for students who are interested in finding out more about this pretty town. The Cannes Film Festival is famous throughout the world and has been running since 1939, usually taking place in May. If you’re not attending a french course in Cannes during the festival there is still plenty more culture to enjoy instead.

In addition to the Film Festival Cannes plays host to numerous other festivals and shows throughout the year. These include a pyrotechnic festival (fireworks) in the summer, the International Festival of Games in February, and Carnival on the Riviera in the lead up to Shrove Tuesday.
