Study Abroad in Auckland for Beautiful Scenery in This Lively City!

The city of Auckland has a reputation for being a lively and fun-loving place, surrounded in beautiful scenery and with lots of things to see and do Auckland makes for a great study abroad destination.

Where is Auckland?

Auckland is on the North Island of New Zealand, situated in the South Pacific. This is the largest city in New Zealand and has the highest population with about 1.3 million people living in the Auckland urban area. This is over 30% of the entire population of New Zealand! Because of Auckland’s position on a narrow strip of land the city can claim to have one harbour on the Pacific Ocean and one on the Tasman Sea.

The Tourist Attractions of Auckland

Auckland is really attractive city – with modern buildings in the Central Business District, two harbours, and amazing scenery all around it. One of the city’s most popular attractions is the Sky Tower. This is the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere at 328 metres high and gives you great views of the city and the surrounding scenery. As a language travel student new to the city, visit this early on so you can get a feel for how the city is laid out! Auckland has several good museums including the Auckland Art Gallery, and the Underwater World with aquarium is popular too.

Just outside the city are mountains which used to be volcanoes. Mount Eden is good for climbing for the city views from the top and the Waitakere Ranges offer fantastic scenery including waterfalls and beaches where you can swim and relax when having a day off from your foreign language school!

Enjoy A Cosmopolitan Lifestyle When You Study Abroad in Auckland!

With so many leisure activities available in Auckland (sailing, hiking, swimming and more) and great scenery surrounding the city, this makes residents very relaxed and friendly, and although this is a large city it’s quite peaceful in certain respects! Auckland then would probably appeal to a language travel student who wants to study abroad in a big city, but one which isn’t too big!

The Culture & Cuisine of Auckland

During the summer Auckland takes on a really cosmopolitan feel. Al fresco cafés and dining is popular and there are a great many varieties of cuisines available here. Auckland has a large Polynesian population, so there’s lots of Polynesian influence all around the city, particularly in the Saturday morning Otara Flea Market!
