The Italian Language School for
Foreigners A DOOR TO ITALY, established in 2002, is the first institution
teaching Italian as a foreign language in Genoa, close to Portofino and Cinque
Terre. All the language courses are offered all year round in our premises in
the heart of the town in an elegant and fascinating 19th century building with
large and sunny classrooms, a balcony, a lounge area with coffee corner and
snacks, free internet points, WiFi connection and a welcome information point
to discover planned cultural and leisure activities. For our students we offer
a wide range of housing options from basic accommodation up to high level
solutions, to guarantee our students a pleasant stay.
Our students come to A Door to
Italy from all over the world to study Italian for different purposes: for
passion, to find out about their origin, to learn a beautiful language and to
know the local culture, for business, for study.
All this variety is an enriching
experience for everyone of us and for the students themselves. They all come
for a full immersion Italian language experience. Different cultures and
backgrounds at schools encourage cross-cultural exchanges and help a fast
Students' age range is from 16 to
100 years, so we do welcome young students, university students, such as
professionals or retired people.
All our teachers are young,
natives, highly qualified and with wide experience in teaching Italian to
foreigners. They regularly follow practical training and refresher courses.
Apart from being able to share
their knowledge and practical skills, they create a friendly atmosphere in a
group, which contributes to a fast and efficient acquisition of the Italian

the learning of the language, developing the communicative abilities, though
with care and consideration of grammatical structures.
At A Door to Italy the student
finds the necessary help and assistance to face all kind of problems related to
the study of the Italian language.

The majority of students come from Germany, France, USA, UK, Japan, Austria, Polonia, Russia and Spagna

Average age throughout the year: 35 years
Classes are composed by at least 3 and at maximum 8 students.
All the courses are offered all year round in our new premises in the heart of the town. The school is located in an elegant and fascinating 19th century building and offers to its students large and sunny classrooms, a long balcony to a lounge area with coffee and snacks, daily newspapers, free internet points and also wireless internet available, a furnished library and an information point about cultural and leisure activities.
Living in Italy - even if it is only for a short time - is a unique experience, full of opportunities. Genoa is a lively city, with an exciting cultural scene. The city offers a broad range of events throughout the year to satisfy the tastes of all age groups. The school‘s cultural program makes it possible for you to enjoy the city and its events while learning Italian. The following activities are offered on a regular basis: Introduction to Genoa, Welcome cocktail, Visits to some of the most famous and interesting museums. Visit to the aquarium (the biggest aquarium in Europe, main centre of the scientific biological studies of the last decades) Sing the song: Italian and Genoese songs to exercise pronunciation. Soirées to the theatre: opera, drama or comedy. Dinner or “aperitivo” the Italian way… Excursion by boat Students have also other interesting places to visit and discover. The school staff are able to give all necessary information to plan visits and excursion within the city or in the surroundings.

How to get there
A Door to Italy is located in Via Caffaro 4/7, 16124, Genoa
On request the school may provide pick-up service from the place of arrival to the reserved accommodation and for the way back.
HOW TO GET HERE?
From the main Piazza De Ferrari square walk few mt to Via XXV Aprile, Piazza Fontane Marose and Piazza Portello. The school is in Via Caffaro (few steps from Piazza Portello) on your right side, 3rd building.
