The CPIT School of English welcomes students from all over the world and offers more than just English language tuition.

Students can combine their English study with other subjects and develop their English skills in different situations. Some students come for a complete study pathway, entering our School of English and progressing to full-time academic study.

The School of English is situated in the centre of CPIT's main campus in central Christchurch city. This means you will have the opportunity to meet and talk to "Kiwi" students every day.

CPIT is the largest institute of technology in the South Island and is over 100 years old. We have helped hundreds of international students achieve their study goals, graduate, and move into successful careers.

CPIT is the accredited IELTS Testing Centre in Christchurch.


Maximum number of students per class is 18 and the average number of students per class is 14.

Our average age of our students is 24 years.

Our top five nationalities in English Language are China, Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

We have students at CPIT from over 50 different nationalities.


    CPIT provides all the facilities you would expect from a major tertiary institution.

    The very modern facilities offer international satellite television within a well resourced library, cafes, and 24-hour computer access with Wireless connections available too.

    Students also have access to student advisors including bilingual advisors, a health centre with doctor and nurse, and learning support services. The digital language self access centre is open 7 days per week and has some of the most modern equipment available to help students with their language studies.

    An activity programme for students provides opportunities to play sport, visit tourist attractions in the area, go the movies, enjoy aerobics and other recreational pursuits such as rock climbing and hiking in the beautiful natural environment found in the South Island of New Zealand.


    Sports including badminton, football, snow boarding, skiing, tennis, kayaking, rock climbing, table tennis, skating, netball, hockey, basketball, swimming and surfing.

    Other activities including hiking, yoga, aerobics, movies, pub night, drama, and music.

    Tourist trips include visits to the mountains (Southern Alps) and national parks, whale watching, swimming with the dolphins, farm visits, thermal pools, jet boating and bungy jumping.

    Christchurch is known as the "Garden City" and you can enjoy the beautiful nature and scenery every day!

      CPIT has perfect systems and many programs. computer room, library, language room, helt centre... That is so many help for me and teachers are really perfect. they are very kind and very funny and then i did study very well.
