One to One Language Courses are a great choice for students who don’t get on as well in a classroom setting and have many advantages over Standard language courses. But there are some disadvantages too!
Standard language courses take place within a classroom setting where there will be one teacher and a number of language students, usually around 10 to 15 though this depends on the language school. One to one language courses are different because it is just you and the teacher; there is nobody else in the class with you.
There are many benefits to One to One language courses. Some of the most obvious include:
While standard language courses work very well for many students, some students just don’t get on well in a classroom environment. A one to one language course can provide the environment in which these students find it far easier to learn.
Although your One to One language course may take place over the same, or even less, number of hours per week than a standard course, students will find the time spent is put to very good use. When you’re in a class with ten or more other students, the teacher can’t always keep track of how you’re doing. When you’re in a One to One setting, you have the teacher’s undivided attention.
Not all students are happy raising their hand to ask a question in a classroom full of other students. On a One to One course there’s just you and the teacher so many students find it far easier to ask questions when something is not understood.
Bearing in mind the above points, a One to One language course seems to present the perfect environment in which to succeed!
While there are some great advantages to One to One language courses they are not suitable for everyone. Many students prefer to be part of a larger group of people when learning, and get on just fine in this environment. If you’re on a One to One language course you generally won’t have as much interaction with other people as you otherwise would; this could mean you miss out on the social side of attending a language school. Finally there’s the cost – One to One language courses cost quite a lot more than a standard language course, so may be outside the budget of some students.
