    On the other hand, you may simply be studying a foreign language in order to develop your personal skills. Not all study abroad programs will work towards getting a certificate of proficiency, so if you want to prove to people in the future that you are capable of communicating in that language at a certain level look for courses which will end with an exam and a certificate of proficiency.
