The IELTS helps students who wish to attain fluency in English do so in a direct, immediate manner that assures quality language retention and correct usage in numerous areas of life.
While a variety of testing methods and educational programs have been developed to help allow students to learn fluent English for educational, career and personal needs, the IELTS battery of tests is one of the most respected and longest standing programs in the world. Founded in 1989, the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) provides students with the knowledge and language tools needed to find success in all areas of life.
The IELTS is available in two different applications. Each is designed to provide immediate and ongoing benefits for a specific subset of students.
Academic Version – The academic version of the IELTS tests is designed to help those who require an ongoing education in a vital area. University and college students benefit greatly from this test, which measures their ability to communicate in real, everyday language, as well as terminology frequently found in educational courses.
General Training – The general training variant of the IELTS tests was created to help facilitate the understanding and fluency in English of immigrants, those involved with citizenship applications, as well as those seeking employment in a nation or area in which English is the primary language.
Much like the TOIEC, the IELTS test covers four areas of student comprehension and performance. Listening, speaking, writing and reading are all assessed, in order to provide the student with the utmost assistance learning their new language.
Additionally, the IELTS allows students to participate and emulate a variety of different accents, speaking styles and even writing styles, enabling them to match the country of their choice. As with the TOIEC, the IELTS test must be taken in person. The speaking portion of the exam is an interview-based discourse between the student and an interviewer and plays a large role in the final grade assigned to the student through the course.
One of nine skill levels can be assigned, based on the results of the specific tests in the four primary areas. For instance, a score of 0 indicates that the student used no English, while a score of 9 indicates that the student is an expert in the language and its application. Through this unique and dynamic testing and assessment method, the IELTS has proven a viable, beneficial tool for students around the globe.
