French Canada is a popular destination for French immersion language travel with its vibrant cities such as Montreal and Quebec City, great scenery everywhere, a pleasant climate and the chance to become an ice hockey fan!
Although most of Canada uses English as its primary language, Canada also has a French speaking province too. Canada is officially a bi-lingual country though Quebec is the only province where you’ll find that French is the predominant language.
This makes Canada a really great choice for a French language immersion program as you get to experience what this great country has to offer. French Canada has some wonderful cities and scenery, and of course you can always pop over into English speaking Canada if you want a change!
Canada makes up the northern part of North America. This is a huge country of which the province of Quebec (French Canada) is just one part. Quebec is situated on the eastern side of the country, and is the second largest Canadian province. To give you an idea of its size, Quebec is nearly three times larger than France!
The two main cities in French Canada are Montreal, and the capital of Quebec, called Quebec City. Montreal is the second largest city in the whole of Canada and both it and Quebec City are very attractive cities. There’s some great looking historic French architecture yet both cities are also cosmopolitan and modern with many fun things for language travel students to get involved with!
As well as the cities French Canada also has some beautiful scenery mountains, including the Laurentians and the Appalachians. The Montmorency Falls are very picturesque too. Whilst you’re studying your foreign language course why not enjoy one of Canada’s most popular sports – Ice Hockey. The Montreal Canadiens are in the National Hockey League, so try to catch a game!
Studying a language immersion in French Canada gives you the best of both worlds because French Canadians speak both English and French so you should never have any trouble being understood! The currency in French Canada is the same as for the rest of the country, the Canadian Dollar.
French Canadians are very proud of their French heritage though this doesn’t mean you’ll only find French influenced cuisine here. On the contrary, like the rest of Canada, the cuisine here is very diverse with a lot of Asian and European influences so you’re bound to find something to tantalise your tastebuds!
French Canada is also a fun place for a language travel student as there’s always something going on. In Montreal visit the Montreal Francofolies which is a French language music festival, or winter in Quebec City g to the world’s largest Winter Carnival.
French Canada has warm summers and quite cold winters. During July the average high temperature is 25C which is a really nice temperature, not too hot for spending the days in your foreign language school! French Canada is really beautiful in the autumn when the leaves change to golden brown.
