Nice
is more than the capital of the Côte d'Azur. It is the fifth largest
town in France and contains great wealth of fine architecture and
culture. Ruins, museums, boutiques, outdoor markets, an appealing café
culture and a vibrant night life make Nice a great place to visit.
Places of interest include:
Basilica Notre Dame: The
largest church in Nice is the oldest of the modern religious structures
erected in the heart of a new town after the Comté de Nice became part
of France.
L'Opera: Built in
1885 by the Nicois architect Francois Aune as an imitation of Palais
Garnier in Paris, this is one of the most decorative French theatres,
with its seafront facade, its ceremonial staircase and painted ceiling.
Matisse Museum: This
completely renovated 17th-century Genoan style villa in the heart of
the olive grove in the Gardens of Cimiez, houses the personal collection
of the great Fauvist painter who lived in Nice from 1917 until his
death in 1954. Works from all periods of his life, offer a comprehensive
panorama: from the first paintings made in 1890 to the famous gouache
cutouts, total of 236 drawings and other illustrations.

I spent three weeks in Sprachcaffe in Nice studying French, I started from the ZERO level and I must admit that they managed to teach me quite a lot. The staff is really nice and teachers are helpful and patient. But what makes Nice stand out is the atmosphere, the people (I went there in June so there were only a few of us in the school and I made many true friends there!) and the beach - I bet that you will spend every night at the beach, drinking "juice" ;P with the people from school, talking (by the way 80% of the students were from Spanish speaking countries), laughing and listening to people playing guitars, etc. AMAZING! I can honestly recommend Sprachcaffe :)
